In October, our friends, Lori and Justin Broadbent came to China to visit us. Ed and I were able to make a quick trip to Xi'an with them. Here are a few pictures.
This is the Muslim Quarters it is a great place to shop! This street was so crowded! It took Lori and I over 20 minutes to walk down the street, and we weren't even shopping!
When we were walking on the old city wall, we looked over the edge and saw what looked like piles of clothes and stuff. But what it really was, was a yard sale. So even here in China they have yard sales! From where we were it looked like they had piles of shoes, and coats, and such.
Here we are at the Terra Cotta Worriers. This is what they looked like when they found them. I cant imagine sifting through the dirt and trying to put all the pieces together.
As you can see in this picture there are tons of people! We were there on a Chinese Holiday, and they said that there had been over 50,000 people the day before! It was CRAZY packed!
It was so cool to see them up close! We paid a few extra bucks so we could go down a little closer and get a better look.
Before we went to Xi'an I didn't realize how big the 'pit' was! It was HUGE! This was such a great trip and never in my life time did I think I would have this opportunity!

Tell us more about the terra cotta warriors. I have seen something like that before but I don't know the stor behind them. Who made them? And why? Does each one have a different face?
I can't believe we came to China & did not stay another day or two to make the trip to Xi'an! Every time we turn around we hear something else about the terra cotta soldiers! We will have to come back soon. (We also regret not going into Cambodia to see Ankor Wat.)
Mary,
What a great blog you have. I added you to my blog list that I like to look at. :) Laura and I have been looking at all of your pictures. I have looked at them before, but I didn't read everything. What an experience of a lifetime. Happy New Year!
Love, Susan and Laura Johnson too!
